Opener Jakob Bhula (Jakob Jarrod Naran Patel Bhula, to give the exotic full name) created history during New Zealand‘s second match in ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018. He scored the highest individual score in Under-19 ODIs. New Zealand were up against Kenya at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch and were put to bat first. The openers, Bhula and Rachin Ravindra put up a 245-run partnership. This is the highest-run partnership for first wicket and fourth-highest for any wicket in U-19 ODIs. Both openers scored hundreds, the seventh such instance and the first for New Zealand. Their total of 436 for 4 is the second-highest total of all-time in U-19 ODIs.

Bhula faced 144 deliveries and hit 10 fours and 5 sixes on course to his 180. He went past Australia’s Theo Doropoulos’ previous best of 179 not out. For New Zealand, James Marshall held the record for his unbeaten 164.

New Zealand later restricted Kenya at 193 for 4 in 50 overs, winning the match by 243 runs. This is the highest margin of victory for New Zealand and the 10th overall.

After winning consecutive matches in the tournament, New Zealand now sit on top of Group A with 4 points.
