Jacques Kallis completed his 45th Test ton in his final Test for South Africa on Day Four of the second Test against India at Durban. Kallis who announced his retirement before the start of the Test looked in sublime form displaying his skills dealing against the spin of Ravindra Jadeja and the reverse swing of pacers. Kallis is the fourth South African to score a ton in his last Test.
Kallis has had a healthy record at Durban averaging over 50 with five centuries and two half-centuries. The legend walked in to bat to a guard of honour by the Indian team and the umpires after the dismissal of Hashim Amla on Day Three. He was watchful at the start with Jadeja getting some purchase from the wicket. He shared a crucial fourth-wicket stand of 127 runs with AB de Villiers (74). Kallis was unbeaten on 78 when play ended early on Day Three due to rain. Along with Dale Steyn, Kallis continued his innings calmly playing his usual cover drives and looked at ease except when Jadeja got the odd ball to move away sharply.
Pieter van der Bijl (125), Barry Richards (126) and Lee Irvine (102) are the other South Africans who scored a century in their last Test match.
