Jagmohan-Dalmiya-returns-as-BCCI-President

Jagmohan Dalmiya Monday was elected to the post of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief after N Srinivasan, decided against contesting the presidential elections in wake of a Supreme Court ruling, which barred him from standing for elections while having interests in Chennai Super Kings, citing ‘conflict of interest’.

“Jagmohan Dalmiya has been elected as the president of BCCI,” Gokaraju Gangaraju, who was himself elected vice-president of the board at the meeting in the southern city of Chennai, told AFP by phone. “We look forward to working under his leadership.”

Formerly Dalmiya has led the International Cricket Council (ICC) and emerged as the favourite to bag the post of BCCI president after backroom negotiations, reported sports.ndtv,com.

Dalmiya was the consensus candidate among the Srinivasan loyalist camp and therefore the result of this election was a foregone conclusion. Srinivasan currently holds the position of ICC chief — a position Dalmiya held from 1997 to 2000. Dalmiya was also the BCCI chief for more than a decade, before he was ousted by rivals in 2005.

In other results, Anurag Thakur was elected to the post of BCCI secretary, while Amitabh Chaudhry became the joint secretary. Anirudh Choudhry took the position of BCCI treasurer.

The Cricket Association of Bihar Secretary, Aditya Verma, expressed his delight over Thakur being elected to the post of BCCI secretary and said he was confident that Thakur will understand the plight of cricket in Bihar.

“Happy that Anurag Thakur, who is an experienced cricketer himself is the the secretary of BCCI and delighted that Jyotiraditya Scindia is the new vice-president. On behalf of the Cricket Association of Bihar I congratulate them and I am sure that he will understand the tough phase that cricket in Bihar is going through,” said Verma.
