Kolkata: Paying rich tributes to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya, ICC chief executive officer Dave Richardson on Sunday said it was Dalmiya’s legacy that India will forever remain important for world cricket. “I first came across him when I joined the ICC and he was the BCCI president. He always struck me as a polite and respectful man, quietly spoken but had a great attention to detail,” said Richardson condoling Dalmiya’s death. “I think when you can show respect to everybody you can be a very good administrator. He treated everybody the same- very fairly. India would remain a very important part of world cricket and that would be Dalmiya’s legacy,” said the former South African wicket-keeper. Dalmiya, who also held the position of the CAB President, was reported to be faring quite poorly in terms of his health. He was reported to be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease that he had contracted recently and due to which he suffered frequent bouts of memory loss. He was reported to hardly have turned up for work since being elected to the post of BCCI president. Dalmiya was said to have arrived 40 minutes late in his last committee meeting, in which he reportedly mumbled a few sentences, before adjourning the meeting due to the presence of N Srinivasan given the conflict of interest issue. President of the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Sharad Pawar was extremely critical of Dalmiya’s continuation as the BCCI President due to his bad health.
