Following Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crushing 50-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), MS Dhoni’s batting position has become a topic of discussion.
Dhoni’s decision to bat at number nine in the order has sparked controversy, despite his impressive unbeaten 30 off 16 deliveries. Over the past few seasons, Dhoni has deliberately limited his time at the crease, facing fewer deliveries. Fans and experts criticized the 43-year-old for batting behind Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, and Ravichandran Ashwin
However, ex India’s batter Virender Sehwag jokingly said during a Cricbuzz discussion that Dhoni came early to bat, as he usually arrives at the crease in the last two overs of the innings.
“Jaldi aa gaye na (He came out to bat early),” joked Sehwag.
“We were talking about this that maybe he will walk out to bat at No.10,” former India batter Manoj Tiwari said who was also part of the discussion.
“When he came, 16 overs were bowled. Usually, he comes in the 19th or 20th over, so he came out to bat early, didn’t he? Either he came out to bat early, or his batters lost wickets far too quickly,” Sehwag added.
Dhoni struck three boundaries and two towering sixes in the final over bowled by Krunal Pandya, giving his fans something to be happy about, as they where cheering after the fall of every wicket only to catch the glimpse of the legend.
Meanwhile, Dhoni surpaassed Suresn Raina to become the highest run-getter for CSK. Dhoni has a total of 4699 runs in the 204 innings, whereas Raina went on to score 4687 runs in 171 innings before retiring form the sport.
