James Anderson, Ben Stokes and Adil Rashid were added in the 14-man squad as England Cricket Board (ECB) announced squad on Monday for the second Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford, Manchester, starting on Friday. Anderson and Stokes have both been passed fit following their respective shoulder and knee injuries. The duo proved their fitness in a County match. They played in the ongoing County Championship match between Lancashire and Durham at Southport, near Liverpool. On the other hand Rashid is yet to make his home Test debut. He is expected to give Mooen Ali the support with his off-break in giving Pakistan batsmen some harsh treatment. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: England vs Pakistan, 2nd Test at Old Trafford
England faced a 75-run defeat in the first Test at Lord’s. The match ended inside four days when The hosts were chasing 283 and were bundled out for 207 runs in 75.5 overs. Leg spinner Yasir Shah spun England as he went on to become second overseas bowler to bag 10 wickets at Lord’s. In the first innings he picked 6 wickets as Pakistan restricted England at 272 and gained a lead of 67 runs.
Shah even scored 30 important runs in the second innings and helped Pakistan set a target of 283 with two days remaining in the match.
It was not a high scoring match and the bowlers played a major part in the team’s win. While Pakistan’s camp was strong with Mohammad Aamer, Shah, Rahat Ali and Wahab Riaz in form, England surely missed the services of Anderson and Stokes in the crucial times. Pakistan’s skipper Misbah-ul-Haq who made his England debut in that match went on to score a Test ton at an age of 42.
England’s 14-man squad for 2nd Test at Old Trafford: Alastair Cook (c), Alex Hales, Joe Root, James Vince, Gary Ballance, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Adil Rashid, Steven Finn, Jake Ball.
