Michael Vaughan has come out in admiration of Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie after Yorkshire sealed the County Championship after 13 years on Friday. Vaughan believes that Yorkshire have all attributes of champions and Gillespie brings with him the Australian winning mentality.

“Gillespie is a mini Darren Lehmann. He just gets the game. He does not over-complicate it. He never stresses a bad day, he accepts it as the nature of cricket. He has basic plans and puts the onus on the players to make decisions. He does not look at stats too much and puts the trust back in the individual, no matter how old or young, ” Vaughan told Telegraph.co.uk

“His view is that as soon as you are picked for Yorkshire, regardless of age, you are expected to perform. Gillespie played in an era when Australia were dominant and had that winning mentality. Players from that team will say “just cover the basics well and be aggressive in attack. Traditionally in England, bowlers have ben told to hit the top of off stump. Not under Gillespie.”

“He thinks the right length is to hit halfway. He does not mind if bowlers are driven for fours because he believes eventually you will earn a snick to the slips.”

“His success this year shows what happens when you have a good man in the dressing room who is normal and not had his head turned by science or too many books. He has been there and done it himself. The players know that but he never talks about his own success as a player. In fact, he mentions his Test double century more than anything else. You would never think he ever took a Test wicket,” added the Former England captain.
