Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) won a last-over thriller by 6 wickets against Barbados Tridents (BT) in the 28th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) thanks to half-centuries from Jason Mohammed and Chris Lynn. The win at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida takes them to the top of the CPL Points Table with 14 points in 10 games, just above the Chris Gayle-led Jamaica Tallawahs (JT). The Barbados Tridents by virtue of this loss are out of the play-offs. Having been asked to chase Barbados’ target of 158-6, the Warriors managed to cross the line with just 3 balls to spare. Earlier, Kieron Pollard on wining the toss decided to bat first in a must-win fixture. Ahmed Shehzad’s struggle with the bat at the top of the order continued. His opening partner Steven Taylor though contributed along with the middle-order consisting of Shoaib Malik and Pollard himself. Pollard fell 3 short of his half-century as Sohail Tanvir took the first of his two wickets. Adam Zampa, Dwayne Smith and Rayad Emrit had a wicket each to their name as well. The chase began rather poorly for the Warriors, as Smith fell for a first-ball duck. He was bowled by Raymon Reifer. Nic Maddinson and Lynn then carried along, before Maddinson fell for 16. Lynn was at his attacking best quite early in his innings, as he steadied the ship along with Mohammed. When Lynn was dismissed for 57 off 44, becoming Reifer’s second victim, Warriors still needed 57 runs off 31 balls.

Anthony Bramble departed soon after that, as Pollard trapped him in front. Pollard though could not replicate the success of his 2nd over, as he went for 14 runs in his 3rd over. After the 18th over of the innings Warriors needed just 16 off 12 balls. Ravi Rampaul went for 12 runs in the crucial penultimate over and that almost sealed the vicotory for Guyana Amazon Warriors. Mohammed though finished the proceedings with a six off Pollard’s third delivery in the final over to take his side home and remain unbeaten at 57 from 41.
