England triumphed once again in 4th ODI chasing down the mammoth total of 308 posted by visitors Sri Lanka at The Oval on Wednesday. But there was one batsman who stood out for his innings yet again after his knock of 162 off 118 deliveries – Jason Roy. Roy fell five agonising runs short of Robin Smith’s 23-year record 167, which he made against Australia at Edgbaston. This makes Roy second Englishman to achieve this milestone at an age of 25-year-old. Roy also received a standing ovation for his special knock after being dismissed by Nuwan Pradeep when England were playing at 292for 4. Roy has not scored a century for the first time in this series. In the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka on Friday, he remained unbeaten at 112 while complimenting his partner Alex Hales while chasing down the total of 256 at Edgbaston. The others in this list include David Gower when he scored 158 off 177 against New Zealand at Australia in 1983. Ian Bell also achieved his highest score of 141 off 175 deliveries against Australia at Hobart in January 2015. Graham Gooch is also amongst the list to score 142 off 134 balls against Pakistan in 1987. ALSO READ: Roy: Knock against Sri Lanka is reward of my hardwork
