The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to rest India pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia and the tour in New Zealand

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia and the tour in New Zealand with Mohammad Siraj replacing the Gujarat pacer, a BCCI release stated.

“Keeping in mind the work load of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia. Mohammed Siraj will replace Bumrah in the squad for the Australia and New Zealand tour,” said the release.

Punjab pacer Siddharth Kaul, has also been drafted into the squad for the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand.

Members of the India ODI squad, including MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, on Monday left for Australia for the three-match series beginning on Saturday.

The players took the flight in the afternoon, a BCCI official confirmed.

All-rounder Kedar Jadhav, who is part of the ODI squad, posted pictures with Dhoni and Rohit on social media before departure. “Off to Australia with @msdhoni @ImRo45,” tweeted Jadhav.

Rohit, who was also in the Test squad, had flown back to Mumbai for the birth of his child.

Earlier, MS Dhoni was reinstated as designated wicketkeeper in India‘s T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand in January, while Rishabh Pant was not been named in the ODI squad for three matches against Australia and five in New Zealand.

Pant, 21, made his wicketkeeping debut in T20Is in the home series against West Indies in November with Dhoni out from India’s T20I squads for that contest and the three T20Is in Australia. When the previous T20I squad was named, MSK Prasad, head of the BCCI selection panel, did not rule out a return for Dhoni.

Hardik Pandya, slots back in both the ODI and T20I squads. He marked his return to competitive cricket with a five-wicket haul for Baroda in their 2018-19 Ranji Trophy game versus Mumbai, and followed that up with 73 from 137 balls with the bat and then two wickets for four runs in six overs when the home team batted again.

Umesh Yadav has been omitted from both limited-overs squads and Washington Sundar drops out of the T20I squad. Kedar Jadhav returns to the T20I squad, having been retained for the ODIs.

Shreyas Iyer has been omitted India’s T20I squad and Manish Pandey from the ODI squad. Dinesh Karthik has been recalled to India’s ODI squad.

India play three ODIs in Australia on January 12, 15 and 18. The team then travels to New Zealand for five ODIs and three T20Is.
