Former Australian fast bowler Jeff Thomson along with coach Vishal Mahadik will be accompanying young fast bowlers to train from month in Center of Cricketing Excellence in Queensland, Australia. The winners who will be flying to Australia are Prisith Krishna, David Mathais (Bangalore), Minad Manjrekar, Tushar Deshpande (Mumbai) for training. The selection of the bowlers was done in a two week campaign in Mumbai and a three week camp in Bangalore. The trip is sponsored by IDBI Federal Life Insurance Bowling Foundation. The tour will focus on improving the fast bowlers under Thomson. This will be a big step towards producing quality fast bowlers as they will get more exposure to pitch conditions overseas in the early stages of their career. Thomson played 50 Tests between 1972 and 1985, taking 200 wickets, the sixth most at the time. He is now 15th on the Australian list, with Lillee — with whom he opened the bowling for most of his career — in third place with 355. Thomson also played 50 one-dayers for another 55 scalps. Grout played 51 Tests between 1957 and 1966, catching 163 batsmen and stumping 24 and averaging 15.08 with the bat. He still shares the record of eight catches in a Sheffield Shield innings with former Victorian captain Darren Berry.
The MCA roped in legendary former Australian pacer as the coach for MCA-IDBI Federal Life Insurance Bowling Foundation. The young bowling talents from around the city, who are in the scheme of themes of the Mumbai selectors for the upcoming domestic season, will be trained and coached by the Australian legend.
