Joe Root completed his 36th Test century in the Test match against New Zealand in Wellington which put him on level with former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid.
This is Root’s sixth Test ton in 2024 which makes him the batter with the most centuries in the format this year. Six is also Root’s joint-highest century aggregate for a year and for any English player as well. Root had previously scored half a dozen Test tons in 2021 as well.
Players | Test centuries |
Sachin Tendulkar | 51 |
Jacques Kallis | 45 |
Ricky Ponting | 41 |
Kumar Sangakkara | 38 |
Rahul Dravid | 36 |
Joe Root | 36 |
Root got to his century in the most ‘Bazball’ way possible as he did so with a reverse ramp shot that went over wicketkeeper Tom Blundell’s head and behind for a boundary.
