New Zealand coach John Wright wants batsmen to show enough substance in their second and final Test match at Hobart starting December 9.
“We need as much practice as we can get. We should be continuing our game as we speak – but we’re not. We’ve got an awful lot to work on,” Wright said.
“In the two Tests against Pakistan and here in Australia the top order haven’t delivered. We need to sort that out with players of substance, players who have the technique, the determination – a number of ingredients,” Wright was quoted by The Age.
New Zealand have crossed the 300-run mark thrice in their last four Test matches, but two of these were scored against a lowly Zimbabwe.
”One of the main problems in the last match was that we didn’t look like we knew where the off-stump was. The young debutant [James Pattinson] bowled well … but he’s the same bowler we played in the lead-up match and played [him] quite well, so it can be fixed,” Wright said.
“That’s what we’re trying to do in the next three days,” the New Zealand coach added.
New Zealand team had an extended training session at Allan Border Field under Wright, rather than taking rest.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand coach was confident that the bowling department doesn’t need lot to work on and said they can put Australia “under lot of pressure.”
