England batsman Jos Buttler ‘feared the worst’ after his shot hit Sri Lankan fielder Pathum Nissanka on the head following which required him to be taken to hospital for treatment.

On the second day of England’s practice match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI, Buttler’s pull shot hit Nissanka on the head who was fielding at short leg.

England’s medical staff rushed to the field and after 15 minutes, was stretchered off. An early tea was taken.

“You always fear the worst, I think,” Buttler was quoted as saying by BBC. “I hit him very hard and straight in the middle of the helmet and luckily the medics rushed straight on and treated him. You don’t mean to cause injury – it is a really unfortunate accident. You’re just worried, and that is the nature of it.”

Buttler was given out as Angelo Mathews caught the ball after it had hit Nissanka.

The match ended in a draw. England were scheduled to play a second warm-up match from Thursday. However, the Day 1 of the match was washed out without toss.
