New Zealand star batter Kane Williamson will not be travelling to India for the third and final Test of the series as he looks to get back to full fitness for the upcoming Tests against England at home, scheduled to commence from November 28.
Williamson will be continuing his rehabilitation from the groin injury which he sustained during New Zealand’s recently-concluded tour of Sri Lanka.
“Kane continues to show good signs, but isn’t quite ready to jump on a plane and join us. While things are looking promising, we think the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on the final part of his rehabilitation so he’ll be good to go for England,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said.
“The England series is still a month away so taking the cautious approach now will ensure he is ready for the first Test in Christchurch,” Stead added.
Despite Williamson’s absence, the Black Caps have created history by winning the first 2 Tests against India, handing the Men in Blue their first Test series loss at home since 2012 and also ending their streak of 18 straight series win on home soil.
The 2-0 lead is also New Zealand’s first Test series triumph in India, under the new leadership of Tom Latham after Tim Southee stepped down from captaincy.
The third Test of the series is set to commence from November 1 and it will be played at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
