Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2017 has already caught many eyeballs. How can the neighbouring state be far behind? The auction for sixth edition of Karnataka State Cricket Associations’ (KSCA) marquee tournament will be held on Sunday, August 6, from 11 am at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The auctioneer will be reputed sports presenter Charu Sharma. The seven franchises – Belagavi Panthers, Bijapur Bulls, Bellary Tuskers, Hubli Tigers, Mysuru Warriors, Namma Shivamogga and the new entrants Kalyani Blasters Bengaluru – compete to get the best of Karnataka’s talents on their rosters. There are 215 players divided into two pools. A total of 35 players will be in Pool A, who are marked as top-drawer players, while the other 180 are KSCA-registered players from Pool B. The minimum bid for pool A players will be INR 50,000, while for Pool B, it will be INR 20,000.
The rule goes: it’s mandatory to have 2 players from Pool A in each side, while you cannot have more than five Pool A players in the same team. This makes things further competitive. The PR release states, “In the event of a Pool A player going unsold in the first round, the said player will be placed under the hammer again after the completion of Pool B. The minimum bid for these players will be Rs 25,000.” From the likes of Shivil Kaushik to KC Cariappa to Jagdeesha Suchith have benefitted from this tournament as this paved their path to IPL auctions. The IPL scouts also closely monitor the tournament, which will be hosted by three venues across Karnataka – Bengaluru, Mysuru and Hubbali – next month.
