Karnataka finished at 163 for 6, with a five-run lead against Bangladesh A on Day One of the one-off three-day match at Mysore. Young Karnataka seamer M Prasidh rocked Bangladesh A with a terrific spell of 5 for 49, while off-spinner Udit Patel finisher with 2 for 11. HS Sharath, Shreyas Gopal, and J Suchith finished with one wicket apiece as only Litton Das (50) and Shuvagata Hom (55) showed some resistance. Karnataka started well with Samarth R (25) and Mayank Agarwal (16) putting on a quick 26 for the opening wicket, but Saqlain Sajib brought Bangladesh A back in the game with two quick wickets. Robin Uthappa (1) flopped, and when Abhishek Reddy (28) was trapped in front of the stumps by Hom, the visitors were reduced to 75 for 5. Shreyas Gopal batted well, but was out late in the day for 17. Shishir Bhavane (55*) held fort with Suchith (14*) to take Karnataka to 163 for 6 at stumps.
Earlier, Bangladesh A won the toss and elected to bat first. They were jolted by the bowling of the 19-year-old Prasidh, who ran through the line-up taking 5 for 49. His wickets included Rony Talukdar (0), Anamul Haque (5), Soumya Sarkar (0), Nasir Hossain (8), and Kamrul Islam Rabbi (8). Patel, son of former Indian batsman Brijesh Patel, ended up with the wickets of Hom and Al Amin Hossain. Left-arm spinner Suchith accounted for Das, and Jubair Hossain was snapped up by Gopal. The visitors will be disappointed with the way they batted on this tour, and skipper Mominul Haque — who has had such a brilliant start to his Test career — will be disheartened with the way things have panned out for them so far on the tour.
Brief scores:
Bangladesh A 158 (Litton Das 50, Shuvagata Hom 55; M Prasidh 5 for 49, Udit Patel 2 for 11) trail Karnataka 163 for 6 (Shishir Bhavane 55*; Saqlain Sajib 3 for 48, Shuvagata Hom 3 for 29) by 5 runs.
