Tamil Nadu and Karnataka qualified for the all-India competition in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament as they finished the south zone meet in that order.
While Karnataka crashed to a shock defeat against Andhra for their first loss in five outings, holders Tamil Nadu overcame Hyderabad to record their fourth win in the concluding matches.
Both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka tied on points with 16 apiece, but the hosts were declared winners on the basis of the net run rate.
Kerala beat Goa in the other game to finish third with 10 points. Hyderabad were fourth, followed by Andhra (6) and Goa (4).
Karnataka, who had won all their previous four games, fared poorly against Andhra, who made 149 for seven as Y. Gnaneshwara Rao top-scored with 51. In reply, Karnataka crashed to 113 all out despite a brave knock by skipper Robin Uthappa (65).
In the other match, Tamil Nadu, still smarting from their defeat to Karnataka in the previous outing, scored a crushing 63-run win against Hyderabad to eventually top the table.
Batting first, the home team made 161 for five with openers Srikkanth Anirudha (35) and Murali Vijay (34) being main contributors. In reply, Hyderabad could make 98 for eight.
A hat-trick by P. Prasanth (3 for 22) featured Kerala’s 24-run win over Goa who collapsed to 114 chasing 138 for six.
