The Indian cricket has witnessed a new era on Saturday March 24 as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Test squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, set to begin June 20.

The new era comes in as three of the Indian team’s most consistent inclusions- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin- have retired from the red-ball format. As the three veteran players have bid their farewell from Test cricket, now the team is going through a transition phase- with youngsters stepping up to fill in the vacate spots.

Among the significant additions in the squad is Karun Nair, who has marked his comeback to the Indian Test team after a gap of eight long years. Karun last played for India in 2017 and has now been named in the team for the upcoming series against England- which is set to begin June 20.

Karun Nair getting the attention of the selectors was based on his impressive performance in India’s domestic circuit in the previous season. He led Vidarbha to a victory in the Ranji Trophy, and had also scored 863 runs with an average of over 53. He also scored 4 centuries in this while. Along with Ranji Trophy, Karun Nair has also had a dominant performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with a score of 779 runs, accompanied by five centuries.
