Sri Lankan cricketer Kaushal Silva was on Sunday airlifted to a hospital in Colombo, after he was struck on his head during a practise match at Pallekele. Sri Lanka are currently busy preparing for their tour of England, which will begin on May 19. There were initial CAT scans done on the left-handed batsman, and the results suggested that the cricketer was out danger. However, as a precautionary measure, he will continue to be monitored. He was wearing a helmet which had additional padding — the ones that have come in wide use among the batsmen world over — after the death of Australian cricketer Phil Hughes.
According to ESPNCricinfo, team manager Charith Senanayake said, “Kaushal was fielding at short leg when he got hit. [Dinesh Chandimal] swept right onto the back of Kaushal’s head. He did take evasive action, but still the ball hit him.”
Senanayake said after being hit on the head, Silva was left dazed for some time, and showed symptoms consistent with concussion. Silva was airlifted and taken to a hospital in Kandy, where the scans were conducted.
