S Sreesanth came in support od Indian cricketer Sanju Samson. Both of them are from Kerala. However, the comment that Sreesanth made for Samson, resulted in upsetting the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). KCA opted to insults towards Sreesanth, as he showed his support to Samson as he did not get selected in Indian team for Champions Trophy 2025.
On a TV show, Sreesanth questioned KCA to why did they not select Sanju, even though the player is by far the best cricketer which has come out of the state in a lot of years.
After that, the KCA even lashed out at the former cricketer, stating that the association had stayed by his side even when he was banned for spot fixing .
“When Sreesanth was in jail facing allegations in the infamous match-fixing scandal, KCA officials visited and supported him. Although the court quashed the criminal case, it is a fact that he has not been acquitted in the match-fixing case. In such a situation, there is no need for Sreesanth to take up the protection of other players,” a statement from KCA read.
The KCA further enlisted that all the help which Sreesanth got after his ban was lifted by Supreme Court of India in 2019. Sreesanth could not play any sort of cricket from 2013 to 2019 because of the ban, but was able to return to domestic cricket after the ban got lifted.
“It was only because of KCA’s protective approach that Sreesanth was given opportunities in matches including the Ranji Trophy after completing his sentence. It is worth investigating whether other associations have taken such a favorable approach towards players involved in match-fixing,” the statement read.
