Winning the toss and batting first was clearly supposed to be the way to go after both captains expressed their interest in at the toss. As it turned out, Kenya were the happier of the two sides at the toss while Canada ensured that they had stolen the Kenyan thunder in the first seven overs of the Kenyan innings.

Kenya continued to lose wickets at regular intervals after winning the toss and electing to bat first. After losing three early wickets to Henry Osinde, the senior pair of Collins Obuya and Steve Tikolo seemed to have taken control with a 20-run stand.
However, the Canadian captain got in Harivar Baidwan back for another spell and that had Obuya going for a big one across the line. The attempted slog did not connect and Obuya was bowled for 31 (35 balls). Rizwan Cheema then stuck in his first over itself to get rid of Tikolo and reduced Kenya to 57/5 at the end of the Bowling Powerplay in the 15th over.
Earlier, Kenya had won the toss and decided to bat first. However, with the track surprisingly offering assistance to swing, Henry Osinde had run through the top three batsmen. Maurice Ouma, Seren Waters and David Obuya had all been dismissed with the score reading 21 only.
Brief Scores: Kenya 57 for 5 in 15 overs (Collins Obuya 31; Henry Osinde 3 for 16) vs Canada.
