Kerala were struggling at 110 for six against Andhra after the first day’s play of the Ranji Trophy plate division match on Tuesday.

R V Gomez was batting on 16, while M E Sanuth had not yet opened his account when stumps were drawn.

In a delayed start due to water-logging following overnight rain, Kerala elected to bat and got off to a poor start, losing openers Abhishek Hegde (19) and skipper V A Jagadeesh (7) early.

After accounting for the wicket of Jagadeesh, medium pacer Atchuti Rao wreaked havoc as he went on to add two more wickets in the form of R M Fernandez (0) and Rohan Prem (13) to his kitty.

Rao, along with D Shivkumar, who took Hegde’s wicket, left Kerala reeling at 62 for four.

Thereafter, Sachin Baby (36) and R V Gomez tried to consolidate the innings, batting patiently. But just when it seemed that the duo would steer the side out of trouble, Shankara Rao trapped the former leg before wicket.

In-form Sony Cheruvathur (10), who played a steller role in Kerala’s win against Tripura in the previous match, joined Gomez and took the total past 100 runs but failed to last long.
