England discard Kevin Pietersen on Monday slammed a brilliant triple century for Surrey, in their Division Two match against Leicestershire at The Oval.  Pietersen, who has missed the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 because of his efforts to prove a point that he still has it in him to play international cricket for England, has been in a good form.

Pietersen faced 349 balls, clobbered 34 boundaries and 10 massive sixes to bring up his triple century in the 119th over of the game. Pietersen, the right-handed batsman who has been a prolific scorer for England in Test cricket, has surely made a very strong statement with this knock.

The right-handed batsman added 101 runs with the tailender Chris Tremlett, who too batted well for his 30 off 57 balls with the help of four boundaries and a six.

According to AFP, the 34-year-old South African-born batsman had not reached three figures in a recognised match since Old Trafford in 2013. Pietersen’s hopes of a recall remain with the England and Wales Cricket Board‘s (ECB) new director of cricket Andrew Strauss, who was appointed at the weekend before the ousting of former coach Peter Moores. His former Test captain Strauss will hold his first press conference on Tuesday, before announcing the Test squad to face New Zealand at Lord’s next week.
