England batsmen Kevin Pietersen on Monday said that One-Day International cricket is under threat.

“The 50-over game is the format most under threat,” Pietersen was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.

“The middle overs of a one-day international can be dull. Do other players feel that way? It’s difficult for me to answer but I think some have commented on it,” he added.

Pietersen had earlier in May announced his retirement from playing limited overs matches for England.

He also said that tournaments like the Indian Premier League are here to stay.

“Twenty20 and the IPL are here to stay. Test matches will always be key to how you want to be rated and remembered as a player, but the entertainment package is Twenty20 cricket,” he added
