Johannesburg: Former skipper Kevin Pietersen has praised England for their 241-run victory against South Africa in the Kingsmead Test in Durban on Wednesday. Pietersen, who played 104 Tests for England, took to Twitter to congratulate the visitors, particularly Nick Compton, for scoring 134 in his first match in South Africa,Sport24 reported. “That’s a quite brilliant display from @englandcricket in Durban! With the win, England have taken 1-0 lead in the series. England started off in a really good position as they were already leading by 261 runs. Joe Root was unbeaten at 60 and started the batting on Day 4 with James Taylor. England finished off their innings with 326 runs on board and South African openers didn’t fail to give a good start as well. Dean Elgar and Stiaan Van Zyl helped their side to put up fifty runs in 9.5 overs. Dean Elgar, who scored an unbeaten 118 in the last innings for South Africa, didn’t fail to perform on Day 4 as well. England got their hands on the game as they made a comeback win Steven Finn. England captain Alastair Cook hailed the performance and potential of his team after they completed a crushing 241-run win over South Africa on the fifth day of the first Test at Kingsmead. It took England only 80 minutes to take South Africa’s remaining six wickets for the addition of 38 runs, with man-of-the-match Moeen Ali setting the tone by dismissing batting kingpin AB de Villiers with the third ball of the day. The second Test of the four-match series against South Africa will be played at Newlands from Saturday.
