Kevin Pietersen completed his comeback into cricket with a brisk 110 off 94 balls while captain Alastair Cook narrowly missed out on yet another century on tour, as England made mincemeat of Haryana bowlers in the third warm-up match at the Sardar Patel Stadium B Ground, Motera.
After electing to bat first on an even batting surface, openers Cook (97 off 115 balls) and Nick Compton (74 off 144 balls) shared a 166-run partnership to put Haryana on the backfoot from ball one.
Cook, who had scored 119 at Mumbai against India A in the first warm-up tie, carried forward his sublime form into Ahmedabad after skipping the match against Mumbai XI. The England captain was unfortunate to miss out on a second century on the tour after being dismissed on 97 by offie Jayant Yadav. Compton carried on with Jonathan Trott (48 off 83 balls) before Haryana captain Amit Mishra scalped the duo in quick succession.
Talismanic batsman and comeback-man Kevin Pietersen then took the reins and walloped his way to a swashbuckling century to take England past the 400-run mark.
Brief Scores: England 408 for 3 (Kevin Pietersen 110*, Alastair Cook 97; Amit Mishra 2 for 50) vs Haryana
