Discarded England batsman Kevin Pietersen will not represent Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing edition of India Premier League (IPL). Pietersen suffered the injuries playing for his county Surrey in their County Championship match with Leicestershire — in which he scored a career-best 326 not out — and is expected to be out for two weeks. Pietersen, who said he was devastated at his rejection by England, is also scheduled to play for St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 competition in June and July.
Earlier it was reported, he would turn out to play for SRH in IPL 2015. Pietersen was expected to join the Sunrisers from May 15 at the team’s hometown of Hyderabad. Pietersen would have added some much-needed depth to a slightly frail SRH batting line-up. He was looking to play SRH’s match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 17. But now SRH have to continue their campaign with Pietersen. READ: Kevin Pietersen: The hero England need but do not deserve!
The former star batsman has been in magnificent form for Surrey, having most recently scored 355 not out. Unfortunately for him, new ECB director of cricket Andrew Strauss said that due to “trust issues” Pietersen would not be considered for consideration. As a result, he will be able to boost the SRH campaign at the perfect time. SRH are currently on the rise, and are in with a serious chance of qualifying for the final four.
