Shardul Thakur, Armaan Jaffer and Pradeep Sahu have been released from the Kings XI Punjab’s roster for the next four games of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 till a final call will be taken regarding their future with KXIP. This happened following Thakur angrily tweeted about KXIP not picking him for any game in this tournament. All the three players were with the squad until this week before the decision was taken against them. While Thakur and Jaffer were yet to bag a game this season, Sahu has played five matches where he picked three wickets at an economy of 8.34. Full Cricket Scorecard: Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Daredevils, IPL 2016 Match 36 at Mohali

IPL teams have been known for releasing players mid-way of the tournament and this is mainly because to give the player an opportunity to play in the lower tournaments rather than just warm benches in the IPL. KXIP head coach defended this move from the side saying that it’s a usual practice by all the IPL teams. However, this method has been criticised by some former cricketers and Ramesh Powar was the recent one to give his opinion on it. READ: IPL 2016: Shardul furious at not being picked

“I was 31-32 by then, and had played for India, but I was still hurt after being asked to go back home. For a youngster like Thakur, this can be extremely difficult to deal with. He’s an India prospect, has played for India `A,’ and by doing this to him, you’re sending him the signal that he isn’t wanted in the scheme of things for your team.

“It can be tough for the self-esteem of a player. People come to know that you are at ‘home’ when you should be a part of the IPL. You tend to think: `why did they buy me when they didn’t want me in the first place?’ You are entitled to feel bad. I think the Board must stop this. The Governing Council must make a rule that you have to carry the players throughout the IPL,” he said.
