Last season champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have had a forgetful 2025 campaign to say the least. With just 3 wins out of 9 matches, the Kolkata-based franchise is currently sitting on the seventh spot on the table with 7 points. Their qualification chances currently hang on by a thread and it doesn’t look like they will be able to secure a spot in the top 4.
This situation has raised many questions over head coach Chandrakant Pandit, who replaced Gautam Gambhir for the position ahead of the beginning of the ongoing season. It seems like his coaching style hasn’t been every player’s cup of tea.
According to a report by RevSportz, Pandit recently had a clash with an overseas KKR star as he was dining with a rival team player. However, Pandit completely ignored the fact that the ‘rival player’ was a part of the player’s national team.
Another reason why fans are raising questions over Chandrakant’s appointment is because of how no KKR player this season has appreciated or supported him through their statements. This wasn’t the same last season as the franchise’s players sang praises of head coach Gautam Gambhir and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar on multiple occasions.
KKR pacer Harshit Rana also stated at a press-conference ahead of their clash against the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday that the team doesn’t have the same ‘thrill’ as it had before.
“I won’t say that because the composition of our support staff is basically the same (from last year). (Abhishek) Nayar Bhai has also come back. Chandu Sir, (Dwayne) Bravo are all good. But yes, there is this thrill factor which I miss a little. I am not talking about anyone else,” Rana said.
“You also know that Gambhir has an aura, the way he comes and takes the team along. I was just talking about that,” Rana added.
