Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is all set to host the penultimate opening ceremony of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, before the home team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lock horns with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in match 11 on Thursday. The function will be an amalgamation of Punjab’s bhangra and Bengal’s traditional chhau dance. The 19-minute program will start with a performance by Shillong Chamber Choir. In the third segment, the chhau dance will bring in Gautam Gambhir’s KKR, while the bhangra will introduce Glenn Maxwell-led KXIP. I, Pramod Ananth, will blog all the live happenings of this ceremony, followed by live updates of the match in CricketCountry’s another blog session. Bollywood sensation Shraddha Kapoor will display a six-minute performance to conclude the ceremony, followed by a one-minute AV that will feature the 10-year journey of two-time title-holders KKR.
This, however, is the first time the tournament has eight different opening ceremonies across eight venues. Actors such as Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhoomi Trivedi, Sachin-Jigar, Disha Patani, Amy Jackson, Tiger Shroff have already performed across places such as Indore, Mumbai, Rajkot, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Pune.
In addition, Monali Thakur, a National Award-winning singer, will entertain the home crowd with her stunning performance.
Though the ceremonies have attracted lesser eyeballs on television, the spectators present at the venue seemed to have enjoyed the performances by various artists.
