KL Rahul scores maiden Test ton for India

Jan 8, 2015
KL Rahul has scored his maiden Test ton on Day Three of the fourth Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Rahul had a horrendous debut Test at Melbourne, where he was dismissed early in both innings. Incidentally, Rahul has batted at three different positions in all three of his Test innings so far; he came in at No. 6 in the first innings at MCG, No. 3 in the second innings, and opened the innings at SCG.
Rahul had two big partnerships, first with No. 3 Rohit Sharma — who was dismissed for 53 — and later with Virat Kohli, who had gone past fifty as well. Kohli was dropped on 59 by Steven Smith, who dropped his second catch of the innings. Rahul continued to look steady at the other end, leaving the ball well and presenting the full face of the bat whenever he could.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first on a good looking wicket. The only change in their team was Mitchell Starc replacing Mitchell Johnson. India made four changes to their team. MS Dhoni’s retirement allowed Wriddhiman Saha to don the gloves. Suresh Raina, Rohit and Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in place of Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma. Rahul managed to hold on to his spot.
