KL Rahul hit his maiden Test ton as India went into tea at 234 for two at tea on Day Three of the fourth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Rahul and Virat Kohli batted through the afternoon session. Kohli is unbeaten on 67 at tea.
India began the session at 122 for two with Kohli and Rahul in the middle. The duo batted very sensibly, keeping the Australian bowlers at bay. Rahul had moved into his zone of confidence and was much more assured in his strokeplay. The cover drives were a joy to watch as he got right behind the line and he went through with the shot.
Meanwhile, Kohli also continued to play fluent strokes through the off-side. The afternoon was witness to a very stable spell of batting. Kohli reached his 11th Test fifty and then Rahul moved into the 90s by dispatching a short-ball from Nathan Lyon over square-leg. After a few overs of patience, Rahul got to his ton by playing one behind point off Mitchell Starc in the last over before tea.
There were no real chances for Australia though apart from Steven Smith dropping a relatively simple chance of Kohli at second slip. Unlike the first session, there was no Spider-Cam involved this time.
Brief scores:
Australia 572 for 7 decl. (Chris Rogers 95, David Warner 101, Steven Smith 117, Shane Watson 81; Shaun Marsh 73, Joe Burns 58; Mohammed Shami 5 for 112) lead India 234 for 2 (KL Rahul 106*, Rohit Sharma 53, Virat Kohli 67*; Mitchell Starc 1 for 46, Nathan Lyon 1 for 71) by 338 runs.
