Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul recently opened up about the inspiration behind his now-viral celebration following the win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which was influenced by a popular movie. After delivering key performances during India’s ICC Champions Trophy campaign earlier this year, Rahul has been in sublime form.
In the IPL clash against RCB, Rahul smashed an unbeaten 93 off just 53 balls, which included hitting seven boundaries and six sixes. Rahul is known for his calm and composed nature but he surprised his fans with an intense celebration thumping his chest, pointing at the ground and his jersey, seemingly claiming M Chinnaswamy Stadium as his own. He also tapped his bat on the pitch.
Speaking in a video posted by DC, Rahul said, “This is a special place from me. This celebration was from one of my favourite movies, Kantara. So, a tiny reminder that this ground, this turf, this place where I grew up, is mine.” The movie Kantara is a cultural blockbuster as they earner Rs 450 crore worldwide, according to several reports.
Kantara is a 2022 Kannada film featuring Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, and Achyuth Kumar. In a notable scene, one of the characters dramatically drives his sword into the ground.
As a cricketer from Karnataka, KL Rahul has spent much of his domestic career playing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He also represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL during the 2013 and 2016 seasons.
