Controversy has struck the IPL yet again. Nine days prior to the start of the tournament, rumors are doing the rounds that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may pull out over a suspension on Sunil Narine. Narine was cleared by the ICC but the BCCI wants him to undergo tests yet again in Chennai under their jurisprudence.
Narine was banned last year during the Champions League, barring him from participating in the final between CSK and KKR. As a result, KKR lost that encounter by eight wickets. Later in 2014, he was not picked for the West Indies tour of India and even though he was cleared in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, he decided to to opt out.
The BCCI was reportedly not satisfied with the test results from the ICC and wanted Narine to undergo another round of testing at the Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai. The KKR was left fuming over the same and have even considered legal action and have threatened to pull out of the tournament if the issue is not resolved, reported Cricbuzz.com.
The KKR management is miffed that the BCCI insists on another round of tests, despite clearance from the ICC and maintains that they will not pressurize Narine to undergo any additional testing. The team management has taken up the matter with BCCI president, Jagmohan Dalmiya and alleged that Narine has been targetted.
They pointed out that Narine’s action was not found faulty during the entire IPL season, and was suddenly reported for illegal action in the Champions League T20. The BCCI presidents office has confirmed that the matter has reached their notice. Venky Mysore, the team director, refused to comment on the issue.
