A disciplined all-round effort by Kowloon Cantons saw them beat City Kaitak by 25 runs in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz 2017 final and retain their title. It all started with a magnificent opening stand of 149 runs off just under 13 overs between Dwayne Smith and Babar Hayat for the Cantons. The platform was set for them to get a huge score on the board. They did just that. Hayat topscored with a magnificent 76 off 40 deliveries. Smith too scored a half-century. He was dismissed for 68 off just 43 deliveries. There were useful contributions from the batsmen to follow. Marlon Samuels and Ashar Zaidi too chipped in with 32 and 24 not out respectively. City Kaitak too got off to an excellent start. Openers Kyle Coetzer and Tillakaratne Dilshan put on 65 off just 23 deliveries, but kept losing wickets at regular intervals once Dilshan was dismissed for a 11-ball 23. However, Coetzer topscored with a brilliant 63 off 36, which included as many as 7 sixes and a boundary. Nicholas Pooran scored 28, but nobody else put their hands up to make sure they put on some fight.

Kowloon Cantons had lost just one match in the tournament and with the way they played their last couple of matches and now the final, they were perhaps the deserved winners. Their 222 for 3 in this match is the highest score in the Blitz, surpassing their score of 220 for 3, which they scored against Galaxy Gladiators Lantau on Saturday. Earlier, Cantons had won the toss and elected to bat first.
