Sri Lanka veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara became the second-highest run-getter of all time in One-Day Internationals (ODI) when he reached a score of 12 off 12 balls during the opening game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday. Sangakkara overtook Ricky Ponting‘s career tally of 13,704 runs by to achieve the milestone, though he has a long way to go before he can surpass the record for most runs currently held by former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs. Sri Lanka reached a score of 86 for the loss of one wicket at the end of 16 overs, with Lahiru Thirimanne and Sangakkara batting on scores of 48 and 13 respectively.
