While Test hopefuls Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns failed to produce good scores for Cricket Australia XI against the Sri Lankans in the three-day tour match at Hobart ahead of the two-match Test series, middle-order batsman Kurtis Patterson staked his claim to a spot in the Australian Test side with twin centuries.

Patterson scored an unbeaten 102 in the second innings on day three, following up his 157 not out in the first innings. Test No.3 Marnus Labuschagne scored a steady 50 off 101 balls while 20-year-old Will Pucovski – most likely to partner Marcus Harris at the top – also added 33 not out after scoring 23 in the first dig.

Cricket Australia XI declared their second innings at 224/3, setting the Sri Lankans a target of 365 runs. In the first innings, CA XI had declared at 316/5 before the Sri Lankans declared their first innings at 176/5.

However, in the second innings, the Sri Lankans found the going tough ending on 131/6 with spinner Jon Holland claiming 4/28. Pacer Michael Neser took 2/8 while Lahiru Thirimanne remained unbeaten on 46.

Brief Scores: Cricket Australia XI  316/5d & 224/3d drew with the Sri Lankans 176/5d & 131/6
