Kusal Perera has cruised away to his hundred in the fifth One-Day International (ODI) against Pakistan. Kusal is riding high on confidence after getting to the 1000 ODI runs milestone, earlier in the innings. He has played very well today and relied on timing and poise for runs a lot more than mindless aggression which has been his biggest shortcoming in the past. He was involved in a 150+ run partnership with fellow opener Tillakaratne Dilshan, before the latter had to depart due to a run out by Ahmed Shehzad. Dilshan himself got to the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs earlier in the innings. So far Sri Lanka have had plenty to cheer for and the foundations have been laid for a truly imposing first innings total but they must not let it fall apart from here. Lahiru Thirimanne is the new batsman at the crease and Pakistan will target him.

The knock will be of great importance to Kusal and will do his confidence a great deal of good. It will also have a very positive impact on his average which was languishing in the early 20s prior to this innings, which is poor by all standards. Sri Lanka will be really happy with the proceedings so far as it will give them a genuine chance of scoring a consolation victory.
