Dubai: Injured batsman Lendl Simmons has become the latest West Indies player to pull out of the upcoming ICC World T20 2016, the West Indies Cricket Board announced on Saturday. The 31-year-old right-hander, who is a top order batsman, has a back problem and a replacement player will be named in the coming days. The withdrawal of Simmons follows those of experienced batsman Darren Bravo, off-spinner Sunil Narine and all-rounder Kieron Pollard. West Indies play English county Warwickshire in Dubai on Sunday before travelling to Kolkata on Monday ahead of the World Twenty20 in India, which begins on Tuesday, March 8 and runs until April 3. They are in Group 1 along with England, Sri Lanka, South Africa and a qualifier. West Indies Have some huge names in their squad. For all their mediocrity in Test and even One-Day Internationals (ODIs), West Indies are a powerhouse in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) T20Is. They have the likes of skipper Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Marlon Samuels, each of whom are massive hits in the format. If these players, along with the likes of Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn, Carlos Brathwaite, and Jerome Taylor, play to their full potential the absence of the talented Simmons might not be felt.
