Centuries from openers Richard Levi and Andrew Puttick steered Western Cape Cobras to a 72-run triumph at Highveld Lions Sunday in a South African 50-over provincial championship second-round match.
Levi struck eight fours and 10 sixes in a whirlwind 110 before being caught by Ethan O’Reilly off the bowling of Cliffe Deacon while Puttick slammed 14 fours in his 100 as Cobras reached 379-7 in their alloted overs.
An unbeaten 51 from middle-order Justin Ontong added to the woes of the home bowlers with Aaron Phangiso (3-43) the most successful and Jean Symes (0-71) the most expensive at a sun-drenched Wanderers stadium.
Lions could ill afford the cheap contributions of opener and skipper Alviro Petersen (6) and number three Jonathan Vandiar (16) and only briefly looked like reaching the huge target despite handsome knocks from Neil McKenzie (101) and Gulam Bodi (76).
Central Knights waltzed to a nine-wicket victory at Northern Titans, who were bowled out for 157 with only four batsmen passing the 20-run mark and Johan ver der Wath, Dean Elgar and Ryan McLaren snatching two wickets each.
