LIC President’s XI on Monday beat ONGC West Zone by 49 runs to clinch the LIC Trophy cricket tournament for the physically challenged.
The winners qualified directly, but there was a triple tie among the other teams which was resolved on the basis of run rate.
ONGC West Zone emerged with the best run rate of 1.84 and qualified for the final by edging out GIC Central Zone and Central Bank of India South Zone, who had run rates of 1.79 and 1.46 respectively, in the All India Cricket Association- organised tournament.
In the final match played at the Police Gymkhana, LIC President’s XI scored 117 for 4 in their stipulated 10 overs.
Sarfaraz Khan scored a brisk 44, hitting six sixes, and was ably supported by Swapnil Mungale, who scored a breezy 47 off just 20 deliveries.
Chasing a stiff target, ONGC West Zone could manage only 68 runs and they lost seven wickets in the bargain.
