Afghanistan are on a rampage at present. After mauling Ireland in the three-match T20I series, they ended on a winning note in the first ODI. Riding on half-centuries from Rahmat, Noor Ali Zadran and vital knocks from Mohammad Shahzad, Mohammad Nabi and Samiullah Shenwari, the Asian side piled up 292 for 7 in 50 overs. In reply, William Porterfield-Paul Stirling had taken their side to 206 for 2, before folding for 262 in 46.5 overs. Irish camp’s inability to win key moments, coupled with good bowling efforts from Rashid Khan and Dawlat Zadran, continued to evade them from victory on the tour.

However, Porterfield-led Ireland will again hope for a revamp when they take on Asghar Stanikzai’s XI on Friday. With another loss, Ireland will have to win the remaining three clashes in the five-match ODI series. To prevent things from going out of hand, the Irishmen will come hard at the Afghan side.
