Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day 4 of the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy quarter-final between Assam and Punjab, live from Valsad. Going into the tournament, the two sides are evenly matched. Day 3 has Punjab on the verge of defeat chasing Assam’s target of 288. Punjab have already lost eight wickets with only 224 runs on the board with Gitansh Khera , Barinder Singh Sran in the middle at stumps. Assam Arup Das was the star performer of the day with the ball, picking up six wickets inching his team towards brink of semi-final qualification. Assam second innings was closed at 101 with Arup making a quick fire 31 runs with Barinder Singh Sran taking five for 43. Assam will hope to clean up the remaining two wickets as early as possible. Punjab batting came under after as Arup Das claimed wickets of Jiwanjot Singh, Pargat Singh and Uday Kaul to down them at 26 for 3 in just under 10 overs. It was not until Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Mandeep Singh’s 70 run stand that ignited hopes of the win for them. Dhiraj Goswami were quick to dash any such hope picking both of them for 64 and 20 runs respectively. Gurkeerat made a quick fire 64 in just 55 balls. Arup just before close of play also managed to add three more scalps to his bag of wickets in Mayank Siddana, Harbhajan Singh and Siddharth Kaul. Siddana made valiant 43 runs. Earlier, in the day Assam were bottled out for just 101 runs as Punjab pacers ran havoc on them. Sran and Kaul shared 9 wickets amongst them giving away only 68 runs.

Their bowlers completed the formalities today morning, with only two Punjab wickets remaining. Arup Das, who had taken six of the eight wickets to fall yesterday, took the remaining two today and finished with the figures of 8 for 83. His side has in dramatic fashion toppled a much experienced Punjab team, that had international players like Harbhajan Singh, Barinder Sran and Gurkeerat Mann.
