Rain forced an early close to the second day of the three-day tour match between Derbyshire and Australia at Derby on Friday. No play was possible after lunch and the umpires abandoned play for the day at 3:00pm local time (1400 GMT). Derbyshire were then 81 for two in reply to Australia’s first innings 413 for nine declared, a deficit of 332 runs. Wayne Madsen, the Derbyshire captain, was 14 not out and Scott Elstone 13 not out. This is Australia’s last match before the third Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston starting next Wednesday. Australia levelled the five-match series at 1-1 with a thumping 405-run win over England in the second Test at Lord’s on Sunday, AFP Reported.

Australia’s chances of winning this match were severely hampered when rain washed out two-thirds of Friday’s second day. After Clarke won the toss, Australia piled up 413 for nine declared with openers David Warner and Shaun Marsh both making 101 before retiring out, AFP reported.

For Australia Mitchell Marsh led Australia’s attack with four for 41 in 15 overs.
