Hello, good morning and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates of the third day’s play in the opening Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This is Paulami Chakraborty, and I will be bringing you the live cricket scores and updates from the match which is being played at the picturesque Galle International Stadium. The hosts are expectedly on top in the contest, as they are ahead by 361 runs in the first innings, thanks to a superb innings of 194 by Kusal Mendis. In their first innings, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 494 with their batsmen making merry on a batting-friendly wicket. Full Cricket Scorecard: Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test at Galle

Bangladesh were 133 for 2, having lost two quick wickets after their openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar slamming their respective half-centuries. Tamim scored 57 off 112 balls with the help of 6 boundaries, and Soumya, who has recently been promoted at the top in the order, scored a resolute 66. Soumya faced 133 balls and struck 7 boundaries and 1 six to lead Bangladesh’s reply, which would certainly have surprised the hosts who were looking to make early inroads into the opposition camp. Mominul Haque was batting on 7 while Bangladesh had their captain Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease when the day’s play ended.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka had resumed at 321 for 4. Mendis batted extremely well but he threw away the chance of scoring his maiden double century, hitting a stroke high in the air and Tamim taking a good catch near the ropes. Mendis scored 194 off 285 balls, studded with 19 fours and 4 sixes.

On the other hand, Niroshan Dickwella had the opportunity of getting a hundred as well, but he too played a reckless stroke and was dismissed for 75. Sri Lanka also had their star batsman Asela Gunaratne scoring a confident 85 off 134 balls with 7 boundaries, and Dilruwan Perera scoring a 77-ball 51 studded with 7 boundaries and 1 six. For Bangladesh, Mehedi Hasan Miraz was their pick among the bowlers with 4 for 113.

Sri Lanka will look to produce a far better performance with the ball than what they did on Day Two. They sent down 46 overs, but could get only 2 wickets. Rangana Herath, who is also captaining Sri Lanka, bowled 11 wicketless overs for 30 runs.
