Here are some interesting statistics from today’s game so far:

  • 8:51 PM IST

BAN 176/9 in 20 overs: What an incredible finish to the innings. Lasith Malinga becomes only the fifth bowler to take a T20I hat-trick. he got rid of Mishfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mehedi Hasan off consecutive deliveries in the 19th over of the match. Bangladesh will be extremely disappointed with their total. They looked set to get a score close to 200, but some excellent death bowling denied them the chance. Sri Lanka have the momentum going into the break and will back themselves to chase this total down.

  • 8:28 PM IST

BAN 152/4 in 17 overs, Mosaddek 17 (10), Mahmudullah 1 (1): Bangladesh have lost a couple of wickets more. First Sabbir departed for 19, bowled by Sanjaya off his first ball of his new spell. Shakib after doing all the hardwork was again bowled by Kulasekara for 38. Sri Lanka will now hope to restrict Bangladesh to under 170. If they do that, they would certainly back themselves to chase this down. it is once again up to Mosaddek and Mahmudullah to play a good innings and take Bangladesh to a formidable total.

  • 8:07 PM IST

124/2 in 13 overs Sabbir 19 (17), Shakib 28 (19): Sri Lanka have failed to add to their wicket tally. The partnership between Sabbir and Shakib is looking very threatening and if Sri Lanka do not break this partnership soon, Bangladesh could take the match away from them. This is a crucial period of play for both sides.

  • 7:47 PM IST

BAN 89/2 in 9 overs, Sabbir 10 (8), Shakib 3 (4): Sri Lanka have picked up a couple of wickets in quick succession. Gunaratne first got rid of Sarkar for 34 and then his opening partner Kayes was run out, while attempting a quick single. Sri Lanka will have the upper hand if they get another wicket or two soon. However, Bangladesh are maintaining a good run-rate, nevertheless.

  • 7:32 PM IST

BAN 68/0 in 6 overs, Kayes 29 (20), Sarkar 34 (16): Sarkar and Kayes have turned up their pace a bit. They smashed Sanjaya for 18 runs and then followed it up 14 runs of Munaweera’s over. They brought up their fifty in just 5 overs and look set to put up a mammoth total on the board. Tharanga then brought Malinga into the attack, but he too leaked 12 runs. They have not lost a single wicket in the powerplay overs and find themselves in a commanding position, as a result.

  • 7:17 PM IST

BAN 24/0 in 3 overs: Bangladesh are off to a good start. Imrul Kayes is looking in excellent touch. He has not been scared of taking the ariel route. Bangladesh have a balanced side which is capable enough of thrashing Sri Lanka in their own den. The backbone of their batting is Tamim Iqbal, whose departure for a duck in the previous match affected team’s batting. In the middle-order, there are names like Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan who will be relied upon. Also, Mosaddek Hossain and Mahmudullah impressed in the previous match with their responsible batting down the order after Bangladesh stars collapsed. As far as the bowling is concerned, Mortaza will still be the driving force while Mehedi Hasan, if brought in for this match, will be interesting to watch.

Sri Lanka’s top order impressed with their performance in the previous match. Kusal Perera single-handedly scored the majority of the runs. Vikum Sanjaya has also had a brief and impressive run so far. For spin, they have a dependable Seekkuge Prasanna.
