Hobart Hurricanes strengthen their claim of making to the semi-finals as they restricted the Barbados Tridents to 113 all out in 19.4 overs, which meant Hurricanes need 114 runs for a place in the last four stage. Ben Hilfenhaus and Xavier Doherty broke the back of Tridents batting. Specially the Tridents batsmen couldn’t recover from Doherty’s spell of four for 27 in the middle overs.

The Barbados Tridents lost momentum in their batting from the start of the innings as they lost wickets at regular intervals. At the halfway stage of the innings they were reeling at 50 for four. From the beginning of the innings Tridents lost early wickets thanks to some excellent bowing by Doug Bollinger and Hifenhaus.

The batsmen too, never looked like getting settled and played some terrible shots. The West Indies franchise lost the in-form Dilshan Munaweera, who played some cracking shots earlier. After that Only Jonathon Crater, the centurion of last game showed some fight and made a valuable 42, which helped the Tridents score to get past 100 run mark.

Hobart won two of their previous three encounters, and barring an absolute disaster, they ought to breeze through to the semi-finals. On the other hand, Barbados are yet to open their account despite taking things down to the final over — and the Super Over on one occasion — both times. They will feel quite hard-done by their luck after doing so well for much of the games.

Earlier Hobart won the toss and decided to bowl first. Tridents brought in Kyle Mayers and Neil McKenzie in place of Shane Dowrich and Jeevan Mendis, who joined the Sri Lanka squad for the Asian games, while Hurricanes are unchanged.

Brief scores:

Barbados Tridents 113 all out in 19.4 overs (Jonathan Carter 42; Ben Hilfenhaus 2 for 14, Xavier Doherty 4 for 27) vs Hobart Hurricanes
