Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live update of Match No. 38 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016 between Dhaka Dynamites and Chittagong Vikings at Dhaka. It promises to be a crackerjack of a contest, for it is a battle between the top two teams. However, Vikings have won one match less, and will gain the same number of points if they manage to get the better of the Dynamites. However, the net run-rate will decide the eventual standings. In the last contest between these two teams, Dynamites edged out Vikings by 19 runs at Chittagong, courtesy Mohammad Shahid’s 3 for 23.
After winning the toss, Vikings invited Dynamites to bat, looking to restrict them to a paltry total. However, the plan backfired as Vikings failed to put up a disciplined bowling attack as well as chase down the set target. Now let’s walk through some of its action. Veteran Kumar Sangakkara and Mehedi Maruf added 41 for the first wicket, laying a strong foundation for the middle order. However, barring Mosaddek Hossain, none of the batters could rise to the occasion and make full use of the situation. Hossain scored a blistering 35, inclusive of two fours and as many sixes. For Vikings, Tymal Mills and Mohammad Nabi took a three-for each.
In reply, Mehedi Maruf’s brilliant piece of fielding sent Jahural Islam back to the pavilion. The scorecard read 13 for 1 after 2.5 overs. Anamul Haque soon joined Jahural. However, to make matters worse, Dwayne Bravo got the better of Tamim Iqbal in the third over, putting Vikings on the back foot.
Dynamites bowlers never let the opposition batsmen free their arms, putting a lid on the runs. However, Nazmul Hossain Milon tried to produced the late-order blitz but fell prey to Dynamites’ exception bowling show.
All in all, Vikings will look to avenge the loss and replace them at the top spot.
