Welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the third match of the ongoing tri-series between hosts India A, Australia A, and South Africa A. Australia A have been the best team by far so far, with two crushing wins against South Africa A in the opener, by nine wickets on Wednesday, and then India A, by 119 runs, on Friday. Their openers Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja, also their captain, have been prolific, stitching stands of 142, and against India A, 239, the highest opening stand by any ‘A’ team in a limited-overs game. Burns, who scored a half-century at a strike-rate of 69.23 in the first game, elevated it to 117.55 with the help of 14 sixes in his 131-ball 154 that won him the Man of the Match in the previous game. The losers, India A and South Africa A, will look to open their account today.

A good comeback from India A after de Kock threatened to take the game away from the hosts. He was out for 108 and wickets fell in a flurry towards the end and South Africa A managed to finish with a score of 244 in their allotted 50 overs.

He is using his feet well, and whenever he has to opportunity to be belligerent, he is taking it. South Africa A batting consultant HD Ackerman says the situation isn’t exactly ideal for his team, and it seems some of the jitters are due to the inexperience of the ‘A’ team players in India. Ackerman says the conditions, ie, the heat, is extreme and a few of the squad members have even visited the hospital.

With that shot and three singles, seven runs are taken from Sandeep Sharma’s over, the 31st. Vilas, then, in the next over, after getting beaten by a sharply turning delivery from Karn Sharma, smashes a slog sweep through deep midwicket. He pays five balls safely from Dhawal Kulkarni, to collect only three off the over; Kulkarni’s previous over conceded two as well. De Kock completes his half-century in 73 balls. The two runs collected are part of the five taken from that over from Karn Sharma. The two previous overs were a wicket maiden from Sharma, a testing over, and an over from Dhawan that went for two singles. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel’s first over has a ball jumping and turning to go past the batsman and the wicketkeper, and a swept four from Omphile Ramela. A number of Indian top-order batsmen, on Friday, gave away their wickets while attempting to play attacking strokes. Coach Rahul Dravid, as reported by PTI, focussed on having the mentality to stick around in the middle. In that game, Unmukt Chand scored 52 and Kedar Jadhav scored 50, and besides them, no one scored more than 20 despite nine out of 11 batsmen registering double-digit scores.
